Are you a writer looking to refine your craft or gain fresh perspectives? Write in the Harbor is the perfect event for you! Join us Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7 and 8, for two days packed with inspiration and education for writers of all levels. You’ll engage in interactive discussions, gain practical writing techniques, and connect with fellow writers who share your passion.
The conference begins on the evening of the 7th with a welcome reception and keynote address. On Saturday morning, we’ll start early with a Master Class from our keynote speaker, followed by three session blocks with a total of 12 breakout sessions to choose from. Also, there will be break for lunch on your own between morning and afternoon sessions.
2025 KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Rebecca brown
Rebecca Brown is the author of 14 books (novels, short stories, essays, prose poems) published in the US and abroad including AMERICAN ROMANCES, THE HAUNTED HOUSE, THE DOGS: A MODERN BESTIARY, THE TERRIBLE GIRLS, THE LAST TIME I SAW YOU (all with City Lights), THE GIFTS OF THE BODY (HarperCollins), NOT HEAVEN, SOMEWHERE ELSE (Tarpaulin Sky) and YOU TELL THE STORIES YOU NEED TO BELIEVE (Chatwin). She has also written a play, the libretto for a dance opera, a one-woman show, “Monstrous”, commissioned by Northwest Film Forum, and popular arts and book criticism for the Stranger and elsewhere. Her new book, Obscure Destinies is slated for publication in 2025.
Her work has been translated into Japanese, German, Dutch, Norwegian, Italian, etc. She recently retired from having taught writing and literature in venues as diverse as prisons, public schools, homeless encampments, senior citizens’ centers, at-risk youth centers, and universities including short stints at Brown, Northwestern, Wesleyan, University of Texas, and decades long stints at Goddard College, Vermont (MFA in Writing) and the University of Washington, Bothell (Senior Artist in Residence. MFA in Writing and Poetics). Her visual work has been displayed at the Frye Art Museum, Hedreen Gallery, Henry Art Gallery, Simon Fraser Gallery (Vancouver, BC) and the University of Arizona Poetry Center Gallery. She has also read and lectured in the US, UK, Japan, Belgium, Italy, Germany, and Uganda.
She was the designer, co-founder and first curator of the Jack Straw Writers program, and is a former Artistic Director of the Port Townsend Writers conference. She lives in Seattle where she regularly volunteers at St Francis House.
